Curriculum
St Brendan's Catholic Primary School is driven by a deep belief that every student is capable of successful learning. A high priority is given to building and maintaining positive and caring relationships between staff, students and parents. There is a strong collegial culture of mutual trust and support among teachers and school leaders, and parents are treated as partners in the promotion of student learning and wellbeing. The school works to maintain a learning environment that is safe, respectful, tolerant, inclusive and that promotes intellectual rigour.

St Brendan's Catholic Primary School - Pedagogical Model
The pedagogical Model adapted by St Brendan's Catholic Primary School is inspired by the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm - A model for teaching and learning in a Jesuit School. The goal of Jesuit education is full growth of the person which leads to action. In this adapted model teachers accompany their learners in their growth and development following the example of the model of human life, Jesus.
There are five domains in this model which guide teachers in the teaching and learning process:
Context - we develop an understanding of the world of the student - their background, talents, abilities and achievements.
Experience - we engage students in their learning - cognitively, emotionally, personally, socially and behaviourally.
Reflection - we encourage students to reflect on their learning, igniting a desire to acquire new knowledge and understandings.
Action - we provide opportunities that will challenge students to act upon and deepen their understandings.
Evaluation - we evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching and learning cycle, and of our students' growth as a person.
Homework
Homework will be set by your child’s classroom teacher, either on a daily or weekly basis. Homework should not cause tension at home. If your child’s homework is regularly causing issues because it is too difficult or taking too long, please speak to your child’s teacher.
Homework provides opportunities to…
- Consolidate, reinforce and practice core knowledge and skills.
- Allow children to develop positive home study and work habits.
- Inform parents and involve them in their child’s learning.
- Prepare students for the demands of secondary school (older students)
